Undertaking a process evaluation as part of a large clinical trial: the pleasures, pitfalls and promise. Joanne Jordan will talk about her recent involvement in a process evaluation, which she led as part of a large UK clinical trial investigating the possibilities of reducing the length of time children spend on a mechanical ventilator while in intensive care. Her focus will be on the conduct of the process evaluation, the highs and lows, and what the findings suggest for the sustainability of novel interventions that require a change in the culture underpinning practice.
