The file study-questions.pdf contains the text used in a cross-modality study investigating how listening to music whilst viewing art enhances the appreciation of the art, see Warren, P., Mulholland, P., Barker., N. 'Music and art – a study in cross-modal interpretation', https://arxiv.org/abs/2501.05101. The text in this file refers to a specific artwork, 'The Hippopotamus and Crocodile Hunt, Peter Paul Rubens, 1615–1616'. This is one of the four artworks used in the study.

The file responses.zip contains 138 pdfs with the participants' responses. They are organized into 9 folders. Eight folders contain the responses from the unsupervised participants. The initial digit of the folder name refers to the artwork used:

  1. Portrait of a Man
  2. Anachorète endormi
  3. Festivities on the Coast
  4. The Hippopotamus and Crocodile Hunt

The following letter refers to whether the music heard was that chosen by algorithm (A) or by expert (N).

The folder S contains the responses from the supervised participants. In these cases, the artwork and music group needs to be determined by inspecting the file contents. These files have, in part, been created from transcripts of the sessions and have been cleaned up in places.
