Solidarity with Refugees: Welcoming Little Amal to London

Despite the hostile rhetoric towards refugees in the British media, the reality is many people are welcoming and supportive of people seeking safety and sanctuary. Amal, which means ‘Hope’ in Arabic, is a puppet of a 10-year-old refugee girl who walked from the Syrian borders to the UK to raise awareness about the plight of refugees. Zoe welcomed Amal upon arrival to southeast London. Zoe wrote ”Good people do exist: So proud of the warm inner-city, south-east London welcome given to #LittleAmal! Apparently, she loved Deptford Market, and it looks like they loved her right back! This is surely one of the most culturally diverse and welcoming places in the world. Lewisham was the first-ever Borough of Sanctuary for refugees and asylum seekers. Following her long walk from the Syrian border across many countries to raise awareness about child refugees, Amal is going up North now - get ready Manchester!”
