Asylum seekers in the UK do not have work rights generally. Many asylum seekers are stuck inside their homes, especially during lockdown. Many get fed up, stressed and get ill mentally and physically.

This particular asylum-seeking woman taught herself nail art during lockdown. She is an artist herself and has a passion for beauty and nail art. However, she is unable to go to college to get a qualification due to many barriers such as course fees, the cost of equipment, transport and child care.

This material is part of the Covid Chronicles from the Margins project, funded by The Open University and the International Institute of Social Studies in the Hague. The project aims to highlight the impact of the pandemic on refugees, asylum seekers and undocumented migrants.
