Geodiversity is the literal and metaphorical bedrock on which all forms of life exist, and yet it has lacked the status and standing of biodiversity as a concept that generates research and action beyond its base academic discipline. The International Geodiversity Day (IGD) study explored the range of values articulated and justifications deployed in proposing and supporting the inaugural IGD which sought to promote geodiversity to a wider public audience. The study was designed to provide insight into the geodiversity concept and context for a place-based investigation of geodiversity within the National Trust, as part of the wider Written in Stone project. Discourse analysis of the values and justifications associated with the IGD event was undertaken using a thematic analysis approach. Further details and discussion of the thematic analysis approach taken can be found within the journal paper which has been submitted for publication. This Supplementary Material dataset is comprised of the interview transcripts, data analysis and supporting documents for the IGD study and the associated journal paper.

This research has been approved by the Open University’s Human Resource Ethics Committee and adheres to the University’s ethics review processes (Ref. HREC/4571/Hooton).
