INForMHAA - Interpreter-mediated Mental Health Act Assessments Datasets

This collection contains datasets from a completed study examining Approved Mental Health Professionals’ (AMHPs) perspectives on working with spoken and sign language interpreters during Mental Health Act (MHA) assessments in England. The study identified key challenges, best practices, and recommendations for improving interpreter-mediated assessments.

This collection includes 6 files:

1. README – Overview of the study and data.

2. AMHP Survey Results – 132 quantitative and qualitative responses from AMHPs.

3. Interpreter Survey Results – 39 quantitative and qualitative responses from spoken and sign language interpreters.

4. AMHP Interview Transcripts – 17 in-depth interviews with AMHPs.

5. AMHP Educator Interview Transcripts – 10 in-depth interviews with AMHP trainers.

6. Interpreter Interview Transcripts – 10 in-depth interviews with spoken and sign language interpreters.

Usage Notes:

• Useful for AMHPs and any other mental health professionals, policymakers, interpreter services, and researchers in social work and mental health care.

• Can inform training programmes, policy revisions, and best practice guidelines.
