DEPA - Cameroon Maroua Research Site
This project aims to examine Cameroon’s indigenous theories, objectives, practices, traditions, models, and history of political order-making as an essential ingredient of peace and security to contribute to security provision and peace education. The project team interviewed participants throughout Cameroon, focusing on schoolteachers, traditional authority figures, and government officials. They also conducted focus group discussions with artists, civilians, and internally displaced peoples. These interviews and discussions aimed to understand the citizens of Cameroon’s relationship to peace and education.
The 26 files in this folder include 22 interviews conducted in Maroua, Cameroon with 4 secondary school teachers, 2 primary school teachers, 2 schoolteachers, 5 traditional authorities, 1 municipal authority, 6 government officials, 1 vigilante group member, and 1 civil society member discussing what peace means, education with peace in mind, and the citizenship curriculum. There are 4 files in this folder that are focus group discussions conducted in Maroua, Cameroon with 2 artist groups and 2 civilian groups.
The Cameroon Project was part of DEPA (Decolonising Education for Peace in Africa). DEPA was a 4 year project funded by the Arts and Humanities Council (AHRC) addressing the question: What are the different knowledges and values underpinning peace and how can these practices be connected and compared across countries to create curriculum content and mode of delivery in informal and formal settings, Secondary and Higher Education (HE), in order to decolonise peace education?
