We are undertaking this scholarship project as part of a study to compare student-tutor relationship between psychology students and their tutors in an online and face to face environment. The purpose of this part of the study is to explore contact between students and their tutors, the type of contact students have with their tutors, reasons for that contact and whether student expectations are met. In this part of the project, we will be specifically interested in exploring this relationship within an online/distance learning environment. We will be comparing our findings with those of our RHUL collaborator to better understand whether this relationship is universal to all students irrespective of their learning environment or if there are differences in the relationship and interactions between students and their tutors in online/distance learning and face to face environments.

Overall aim - to explore the relationship between students and their tutors.

Specific objectives:

(1) identifying the types of contact students have with their tutors;

(2) identifying the reasons for contact;

(3) understanding whether or not students’ expectations are met following this contact;

(4) is this the same for students in an online/distance learning environment and in a face-to-face learning environment.
