Data Management Plan - The Role of Absorption: The Key to Spirituality in Modern Postural Yoga
This research project explores the evolution of absorption in Modern Postural Yoga (MPY), tracing its shift from traditional, internally focused practices aimed at spiritual liberation to more dynamic, sensory-oriented methods involving movement, breath, and creative sequencing aimed at promoting wellbeing. It examines how this transformation aligns with the psychological concept of flow—a state of deep engagement and balance between skill and challenge—as defined by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. By integrating perspectives from positive psychology and classical yoga texts such as the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali, the study investigates how contemporary practitioners experience absorption as both a spiritual and therapeutic process. It also considers the influential role of female teachers in shaping innovative approaches to cultivating absorption within MPY.
