Neither sacred nor profane: the permitted content of civil marriage ceremonies

dataset
posted on 2018-09-26, 09:59 authored by Stephanie PywellStephanie Pywell, Rebecca Probert
The data are contained in two Excel spreadsheets, with all identifying data removed, and a non-alphabetical coding system used.
One spreadsheet shows the results of a survey of couples who had married in an English civil marriage ceremony between January 2015 and September 2017, or who had formally given notice of their intention to marry in such a ceremony.
The other spreadsheet shows the results of a survey of registration officers who conduct civil marriage ceremonies. The researchers are aware that some of the responses in a few questionnaires were nonsensical; these have been retained to preserve the integrity of the dataset.
The article based on the data will be available online from November 2018.
